What We Do

At Jen's Animal Rescue, all of our work centers around providing life-saving care, valuable emotional and monetary support, and critical animal welfare resources to our community. While many rescues have the capacity to care for healthy, young and adoptable animals, few have the expert staff and flexible space to work with pets that have advanced medical or behavioral needs. That’s where we saw a unique need in our community. As they would in a family home, animals at our shelter receive medical assistance, care, enrichment, and so much more.

Caring for your pet can be hard. We’re here to help by offering spay, neuter, vaccination and microchipping assistance, alongside reduced fees and emergency grants for families in need. Many of the animals in our care need a little special care due to age, illness or temperament. We welcome pets facing euthanasia and place them with unicorn adopters for their golden years. Our hardworking team of shelter staff and volunteers provide a healthy and engaging environment to our 120+ shelter residents. Whether our residents are preparing for adoption or are living out their remaining years in our rescue, our staff ensure a comfortable stay. Our shelter residents often come from local municipal shelters and homes where their owners are facing hardships and can no longer care for them. Communal living, along with an expert staff, provide them with the second chance they deserve to find a home. When Madera county residents are struggling to afford food for their pets, we provide bags of dry food and cans of wet food to anyone in need. Frequently, we give food and supplies to senior citizens, allowing them to keep their pets at home instead of surrendering them to a shelter. We also support community members who distribute food to feral cats in the region. We respond to information requests on cat behavior and training methods, queries about feral cat care, questions about other animal resources in the area, and many messages about lost and missing pets. We also offer educational programming for community groups and schools which features shelter tours and presentations on responsible pet care.
